Getting started with Geomajas

Geomajas is an open source web mapping framework that lets you create browser-based maps based on your own editable data. Geomajas has a complete 3-tier architecture which makes its initial setup slightly more complicated than copy-pasting some Javascript. But, there is a reward for it! You will end up with a robust, enterprise-level GIS framework that will allow you to not just visualize but also manage geographical data in a controlled and scalable way.

The next pages will guide you through a complete installation of Geomajas from the ground up, including the creation of your first editable Geomajas node. The complete cycle, which includes database and application server installation, should take about half an hour on a recent PC. The current text is Windows-based to get the broadest possible audience, but it should be easy to translate it to a unix environment.
