Inspire and OGC guidelines

Open Geospatial Consortium

Being a true open source project, Geomajas aims to follow open standards as set out by the OGC. OGC or the Open Geospatial Consortium, is the leading standards organization concerning geospatial data.

To this end, Geomajas supports the OGC Web Map Server (WMS) specification and the OGC Web Feature Server (WFS) specification.
The WMS specification defines a standard protocol for generating geospatial image maps while the WFS defines a standard protocol for querying vector features. Both standards operate on the web.

Inspire

The inspire directive is a European guideline giving advice as to the use of open standards in geospatial products. In their latest (juli 22, 2009) Technical Guidance document for Discovery Services, the directive follows the OGC open standards.
